GENERAL
MEDICAL COUNCIL REGISTRATION Whether in a locum
or permanent position, you will be required to gain registration with the General Medical
Council. To obtain
their forms it has now become necessary to complete and return an information form that is
readily available to download from their website: www.gmc-uk.org Their contact
details are as follows: General Medical
Council Great Portland street London W1N 6JE England Tel: + 0207 580 7642 E mail: gmc@gmc-uk.org Their forms will
explain everything you need to know in order to gain Full Registration, but prior to this,
if you are not an E.U. National, you will have to sit an English Test (IELTS) (www.ielts.org )( good
web page) and pass the academic version of the test at band 7:0 or above. Please note: The
most important aspect in regard to GMC registration is: Where was your primary medical
qualification obtained? This is important as it will be the basis as to which route to
take for registration. If your primary medical qualification was obtained outside of an
EEA Member State, other than the United Kingdom, and those exercising an enforceable EC
right, you will have to sit the IELTS Test and
pass at an overall band of 7:0 and then initially apply to the GMC for limited
registration. Once this has been granted, you will then have to apply to the relevant
Royal College (please refer to the Specialist Training Authority link on our home page)
for Specialist registration with the GMC, as this is the only way you will be able to
obtain either a locum or permanent post in the UK. Once your application with the Royal
College has been approved, on accepting either a locum or permanent post in the UK, your
limited registration will then be transferred to full registration, with the additional
aspect of being entered on to the Specialist Register. |
