IMMIGRATION STATUS in the UK  

If you are not an E.U. National you will require a work permit in order for you to work in the U.K. We will do the necessary paperwork for you and keep you informed of its progress. This permit is not requested until you have received a firm job offer and have accepted the post. You must not travel to the U.K. without the work permit. This will take approximately 2 to 4 weeks to organise. However, Work Permits UK, where all work permits are issued from tend to deal with all application very quickly.

 You will need to make contact with the British Consulate/Embassy in your area for the relevant application forms for exit visas for your family members, if applicable.

 The information they will require from you is as follows (if relevant):

 a.   Children’s and your wife/husband’s passports

b.   All the birth certificates

c.   2 Passport photos

d.   Your marriage certificate

e.   Information on the post appointed to (we will send this to you)

f.      Confirmation of the work permit (again we will send this to you)

g.   The cost varies from country to country.

 All visas will take about 6 weeks to issue, so the earlier you obtain the forms the better.

Previously, a work permit only allowed you to work in the employing hospital trust that is stated on the permit, however, since the 2nd October 2000 as long as a doctor has permission from their employing hospital trust, he/she may undertake additional work at other hospital trusts.

After four years on a work permit you are able to apply directly to the Home Office for permanent residency. Work permits are now issued for the maximum period of five years. Once you have permanent residency this will enable you to work anywhere within the U.K. without restrictions.  If you have a U.K. or E.U. passport or ancestry visa then you are also able to work without restrictions.
