Payment - The Procedure/Tax & Banking Info
Pay rates vary according to each Speciality, which is usually applicable to any on call you do. We do in some
cases arrange with the hospital a weekly rate so both you and the Trust know how many hours you are working,
sometimes on call will be in addition to or included in that. However all arrangements will be discussed fully with
yourselves before the post is confirmed.
We pay you a week in hand, so if you have worked the week Monday 1st to Friday 5th you will receive payment
in your bank for that week’s work on the following Friday 12th. Payment is by cheque though other methods are
possible, please do speak to one of us as to what suits you best.
In cases where we have arranged a weekly wage we pay you the agreed amount weekly. However in most
cases you will need to complete a timesheet each week logging the hours you have worked that week and get it
signed by the appropriate person in the department, normally the manager or Lead Consultant. We then need
you to post the original timesheets back to us so we can invoice the hospital trust. However you will still be paid
on a weekly basis whether you are working on timesheets or on a standard weekly rate.
We issue a weekly payslip which we can send you by email or post as required.
We can help you with setting up a UK Bank account if needed, in many cases before your arrival in the UK with
banks such as Barclays International or if you prefer to arrange this once you have taken up the post then we will
provide you with proof of work, residence etc as requested by the banks.
As regards tax advice we have a wealth of experience in working with both UK and overseas Consultant doctors. We can also refer you to a few specialised tax consultant companies if required, they are not connected to us in any way but we have found them to be very reliable over the years.
We will send you the appropriate tax forms as necessary as Consultants can be classed as self employed.
